Sakthinagar unit, the company's first unit in Tamil Nadu, India. commenced its production in the year 1964 with an initial crushing capacity of 1250 tonnes per day. It has now expanded to 6000 tonnes per day. The unit provides employment for over 1000 people, indirect employment to nearly 40,000 people in the agricultural sector, besides catering to 20,000 cane growers.
It produces super fine variety of sugar corresponding to International standards i.e., measured at a grade 35 and below by   International Commission for Uniform Method of Sugar Analysis (ICUMSA) a measure to determine the quality and colour of sugar adopted by European market.It has secured national efficiency awards many years. Upto 12,000 tonnes of this variety of sugar has been exported during the 1998-99 season. It has improved the yield per hectare to more than 120 MT due to pioneering effort of cane department. Sugar recovery has improved vastly upto 10%.  All this has been possible through constant R&D efforts, excellent rapport with the  farming community, adoption of appropriate technology in cane cultivation and processing techniques.
